Tattoo

You will twist the ankle with the heart tattoo
You will waste your sweetness on a tart tattoo

You will wander hard into cold ravines
Following the wearer of a black art tattoo

Through years of pain you will seek knowledge
That you finally find in one smart tattoo

You will fall, and fall, and fall
Prospecting for answers in a star chart tattoo

You will stumble ahead, honey, free and blinded

Crying to the deaf stars for your fresh start tattoo

Your own stranger

In the end, you will become your own stranger
In the crowding mass you'll find the lone stranger

When you sit home late drifting by the fire
Standing on your rug will be a starblown stranger

Tucking in your toddler just like every other night
Your heart will kick you hard. He's a full-grown stranger.

When you come from the party, barefoot through the fog
You will see him marching, your rag-bone stranger

Lost in the squaredance of your limping mind
You will wake to the whistle of the rhinestone stranger

When you're deep in the rebellion of the clapping fools

The one who comes for you will be the best-known stranger

You wish you could be rich

You wish you could be rich
Treasures fighting for space in every pocket
You wish you could go to all the countries

You found yourself penpals in all the countries
But then you got busy getting rich
Their addresses lost in your overfull pocket

Someday you will wish you even had a pocket
Wandering helpless through the countries
Asking about all the meanings of rich

In a hidden pocket in one of the countries you will find your rich self
