City

Not knowing where I am, I say mm-hmm
I sway amen to the sleepy city
following me home, wandering where I wander.

Look at us all drowsing as we wander
up and down the shifting streets. Mm-hmm,
we were just leaving, this is not our city

is it? Rising in jagged shards, where did this city
come from? Why do the streets boogie and wander
sideways and up and down the ports, mm-hmm,

long past morning. Mm-hmm. Lie down, city. Quit your wandering.
